Sustainability policy
SECR Quest is an independent guide to Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting, and we try to apply sustainability to how we work.
This page says what that means in practice, and — just as important — what we do not claim.
Our footprint
A small, digital-only business
We are a small, digital-only publisher.
Almost all of our direct footprint is the electricity behind our servers and the devices we work on: we have no factory, no fleet and no warehouse.
What we do about it
Four commitments
We aim to keep pages light: fewer heavy scripts and media files mean less energy per visit.
We meet online by default and travel only when meeting in person genuinely matters.
Where we have a choice of supplier, we prefer those that publish their own emissions data.
We review this policy once a year, and whenever anything material about how we work changes.
How we report
Below every threshold, still using the standards
We are far below the size at which Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting applies, and we are not a listed company, so the FCA’s UK SRS rules do not reach us.
We still use the UK Sustainability Reporting Standards as our reference for how a company should think about climate-related risks and emissions, so that the habits are in place long before any obligation is.

What we will not claim
No claim we cannot evidence
We do not describe ourselves as carbon neutral or net zero, and we will not make an environmental claim we cannot evidence.
The CMA’s Green Claims Code sets out why vague environmental claims mislead, and the rules reach marketing as much as reporting.

Who owns this
Ownership and review
This policy is owned by Fractional Quest Ltd (Company No. 17322105), which publishes this site.
When specialist input is needed, the approach is to bring it in part-time for a defined piece of work — a fractional sustainability lead — rather than to hire full-time for a need that is part-time.
